Welcome to my portfolio

Basic info:
I have chosen to make my portfolio on blogspot as I have not used Dreamweaver that much yet, I originally started out by making a site in Dreamweaver but realized that making a site alone is alot harder than doing it together with three other people (as we did in project 4). So to make sure I would have a presentable portfolio before the deadline I went back to using blogspot, I have however edited the html quite some in various ways, so this blog does not look like a normal "templated blog".

In the side panel you can read a bit about me, about the name "Daxt" (added on request) and last but not least watch my first ever made flash frame-by-frame video hosted on youtube (It is basically just there for fun, to spice things up a bit).

I wanted to add a "Next post" feature at the bottom of the page but if it is possible I did not figure out how to do it, so instead I manipulated the posting dates in order to get my posts listed in the right order. So in order to get to the next (newer) project you have to click "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page.

Project 1 - Getting started with the portfolio

Introduction:
In this project we were asked to get started with the portfolio and as you can see I chose to keep my original top header, because I quite liked it, however I did "improve" it a bit in photoshop as my skills in the program increased during this semester. Below you can read about what I learned etc. during the process of making the first layout.

Learning:
I started the web-deisgner education with close to zero knowledge about any of the subjects the educations takes you through. I once opened photoshop about five years ago but I did not spend more than maybe ten minutes checking out the program before closing it down again because I could not get it to do what I wanted it to do. As for html I have administrated a couple of forum pages, something more or less anyone with minimal basic internet knowledge would be able to do. During these first weeks of the education I have learned how to do some basic things in photoshop: Erase, overwrite, bend / manipulate features, copy from one to another picture, scale, editing shadows etc. Overall a good deal of things, which I had no clue of how to do beforehand. As for html I knew a couple of tactics but getting the most basic ones refreshed and learning a couple of new ones was helpful. Becides photoshop and html we have learned a little bit about selfbranding, something I am sure we will learn alot more about throughout the next couple of years, which is also why my first real selfmade photoshop picture is a logo made for branding me and my future deisgns.

Deisgn & Visualization:
As mentioned above I knew close to nothing about any of the programs the Adobe CS3 package contains and during these first weeks I had to spend a little extra time with photoshop at home, since I do not own a laptop yet, so it has been troublesome for me to use the programs at the Academy.

That aside I want to describe in detail how I made my first photoshop (logo) picture.
First the original, untouched (by me at least) picture:

I started out by giving the picture slighty more contrast in order to highlight the thunderstorm a tad more. Next the "real" work began, I wanted to get rid of the windmill so it would not take away the focus from ny name but it took more time than I had first anticipated. I started out by duplicating a new layer on which I erased the mill from the picture, leaving a blank hole. After that I began using the "Clone Stamp Tool", setting different starting points on the picture, slowly copying it onto the empty space where the windmill used to be. With that tool I also added a little extra lightning to the bottom left. Making this look realistic was no easy task and I spent quite a lot of time on getting the picture to look somewhat decent (the way it looks now).

When that was done I started working on the text in the middle of the logo, I made two new layers, one with "D A X" on it and one with the "T". I did this in order to get the T to be behind the first bit of text (enhanced coolness!).
I bent the text to make it look better and when I was satisfied I merged it all into one layer, then scaled it down to a more manageable size that could fit the top header (the original picture was huge).

I started working on some other pictures but none of them are complete yet, so for now I decided to only add my logo to this portfolio.

The Company:
In one of our first classes with Mette she handed out a Belbin test for us to take. It is a test that helps indicating what roles people usually take in project / group work situations. It obviously does not tell you 100% how a person would act in a group situation but it helps you to somewhat determine what kind of people you are dealing with and in my case I think it fits my profile pretty well. My test results:

Firmaets mand--- 11
