Project 2 - Banners

Introduction:
In project 2 we were introduced to flash and asked to make some banners for a fictionary traveling agency. My group made three banners with a winter theme, which I later "improved" on my own as they were criticized for having to much text.

Group Evaluation:
We started out by doing a brainstorm and then decided the following.

Learning goals:

  • Become better at using Flash.

  • Combine different components in various programs.

  • Become better at using Illustrator.

Our primary idea was to make three different advertising banners concerning skiing destinations (Norway, France and Austria).
At first we did a lot of research on various well known travelling agency websites, which lead to us designing our banners so they would represent the average middle class person. Afterwards we made our banners as listed below:

  • Norway focusing on children families.

  • France focusing on action hungry students.

  • Austria focusing on elderly / retired people.

Banner description:
Our main banner theme is our layout / brand, which is represented in all three banners.
Our banners consists of bitmap as for vector graphics. We chose the blue background colour to represent the cold winter. The yellow border is also represented in the brand as an opposite to the cold blue, because the sun also shines in the winter :)

Brand description:
The brand was designed in Illustrator and then moved to Flash. “Flyhigh” was picked because it is easy to remember and it makes you think of air planes, vacations etc. The female in the brand is jumping raising her arms in the air attempting to “reach the sky” (fly high).

Banner intro:
We used a walking-man sprite and then added the skies and the staves. The reasoning behind these sprites in the intro is to add something fun, different and original.
Amongst other things we learned to use a simple actionscript in Flash “gotoAndPlay”, which we used to loop the “real” banner, so the intro only appears once on each banner.

Final evaluation:
We produced 95 % of our final product together as a group, since we think this is the best way of working together in a team. The working process could probably have been quicker if we had worked one by one on our own banner but this way we ensured that every opinion was heard during the entire working process.
We are happy and proud of our final banner products, as we have used a lot of different functions in Illustrator as for Flash and as such we all believe that we have learned a lot during this project.
